Plug for Foxmarks plugin
Occasionally I come across an app or plugin that dramatically improves my work flow. The Foxmarks Bookmark Synchronizer is one such plugin. I know there are other similar apps out there, for instance Google offers an online bookmark syncing service called Google Bookmarks and the browser plugin Google Browser Sync for Firefox. Unlike Google Browser Sync which synchronizes all browser settings including history, cookies and passwords, FBS only syncs your bookmarks and integrates directly into the Bookmarks panel in Firefox. FBS also allows simultaneous access from multiple browsers (a deal breaker for GBS, imho). Any changes I make to the bookmarks in one browser instance/profile/machine are propagated to all of the others. This is a huge organizational time saver particularly for research work. I have no less than 7 Firefox profiles on 6 different machines and can be certain that each one has a complete copy of my most recent changes. The only problem I have experienced thus far with Foxmarks is that my bookmarks behave erratically for a few seconds when Foxmarks is synchronizing after a change. This is rarely a problem, though, and I expect will be addressed in a future update. All said, Foxmarks is a ‘must have’ for power users of Firefox.

There is a post on Lifehacker today on how to set this up so it syncs to your FTP server…
